    rc4me 5sc center diff/transmission review:
So far, so good. Noone likes tearing the savage transmission out, it’s just a pain. I put this in a savage flux HP. I only run 4S with the castle MMX/2200kv system, but I wanted to try to tame the wheelies a bit and hopefully extend the life of my pinions. So far, the wheelies are more controlled and I can actually use WOT. It has totally changed the handling of the truck for the better.

I have run through a few fairly hard bash sessions since the install. I’m really glad I made the upgrade. I’m running 75% associated 500K/25% associated 1M oil in the diff. 500K was a bit thin and I had to tear it back down, clean it out and change the oil.

The gearing of this transmission is a bit lower than the flux hp was. I’m running 21/44 gearing and it’s about the same as 20/44 was before the change.

One other thing to note, when installing this into a stock flux hp, the input shaft differs between it, the later model octane/xl and 5sc. The shaft has a hex relief cut into it for the slipper washer. Without that, the when the slipper slips, it will potentially alter the slipper tension. I just swapped the stock gear for the one from this transmission. It all fit fine. This shows the comparison of both shafts, top is what comes in this, bottom was stock in my FluxHP:

I’m not sure what truck uses that shaft as it’s not like the one for the following:
    Savage 21 – 86089
    Savage SS – 86089
    Savage X – 86089
    Savage X w/2 slipper pad spur – 86089
    Flux HP – 86089
    Flux XL – 116359
    Octane – 111802
    5SC – 107460

The shaft that comes in this has 2 pin holes, one for the slipper, one for the gear, the shaft is turned down by the threads like the flux hp, but is missing the hex relief cutouts. I suppose in a pinch, you could grind a hex into it with a dremel, but that would be prone to make weak spots.

This trans is amazing. Forget the standing backflips and trashing your diffs. You want actual control of this truck you get this transmission. I will say had to run a 3.25 inch long shaft in the front instead of the 3.5 but I also upgraded to the flm chasis. Very very please with this transmission.

Wish I could alter my original review. I changed hosting sites for my photo’s and this is the image for the input shaft comparison I talked about in my original review:

I’ve also changed to 6S in this truck. I left the center diff weight as is, but dropped my gearing to 16/48 and if I drove the truck much anymore, I’d likely drop it to 16/52 as it runs a bit on the warm side and at speeds that is hard to control. I have a MMX/2200kv sensored system in it.

Still, the Super 5SC trans w/center diff has been holding up perfectly. Also, still no damage to my diff ring/pinions.

I would likely benefit if I dropped the center diff weight back to 500k now that I have more rpm’s running through it. I have to be gentler with the throttle than when I was running 4S or it just flips on it’s roof. Mine is the shorter flux hp, so it’s quite a handful at anything above 40mph.

This is from the last time I ran it, July 2019:

    hello

can you tell me what part numbers I need to order to install a central differential on a savage flux (old model)?

    thanks

    • Team rc4me.US

      This.

Hello, what else will I need to have this transmission mounted on my Savage Flux HP? Is it a direct fit or do I have to change something to make it fit. Thanks.

    • Team rc4me.US

      It is a direct fit.

Perfect fit took it out on 3s on the stock 14mm hex hubs and it was perfect and transmission has held up so far, no problem either , I used 100k diff fluid I want my actual wheel diffs to survive especially since they are the old diffs with only 1 set of gears inside
